Flashbacks

Analysis: People have certain misconceptions about the downtown BingO scene. They tend to lump JT's, SportsBar and Uncle Tony's all together in one grouping. For the most part, these places are merely a variation on a single theme. Flashbacks, however, is a veritable revolution on State St. As the name hints, this is a retro dance club joint with everything styled vintage inside. You will find two bars facing each other on the inside, along with a dance floor and tables. The area above the bars are interesting to note, as there are both a boy and girls bedroom, complete with a Farrah Fawcett poster. The music is an ecletic mix from everything pre-now. On a recent fact-finding trip, we heard:
"Rio" by Duran Duran
"Apache" by Sugar Hill Gang
"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell
"I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor

The infectous beats present in Flashbacks make you want to bust a move, in the words of Young MC. For the truly brave, there is a replica "Saturday Night Fever" lighted dance floor in the middle of the room. It is a highlight for anyone who has ever dreamed to shave their moneymaker like John Travolta, or have a dance circle with people chanting the dancers' names. That is something out of a Mike Crean dream...

The booze prices are over-priced, to be expected. With any amount of pregaming, you can still have a fantastic time at Flashbacks. The crowd is beyond college age, as there are many older men and women trying to recapture their lost youth. If you get a chance, look for overweight old women to dance with, it makes their day, and it makes everyone laugh their asses off.

Rating: The ambiance is out of control at Flashbacks. If you have any appreciation of well-decorated clubs that don't play over-played R&B and rap, rock out to the old school jams that are served up. Bring a lot of dough with you if you plan on consuming; Flashbacks is not for the light in the wallet. Overall, Flashbacks receives a 4 out of 5 Irish Car Bombs, as it's a guarenteed good time but over-priced.
